November 2024 All-Star: Jason Horne

Jason Horne lives for beagles. Ever since he was a teenager, he has had a passion for running dogs. After winning two bags of Joy Dog Food at a hunt, he fully switched over to our food and hasn’t looked back since. Let’s dive into the story of Jason and Brush Bustin’ Kennels!

Jason grew up in a family of hunters. Although he didn't grow up with beagles, he was no stranger to hunting with dogs. He regularly hunted with his brother and dad, using coonhounds and deer dogs. At sixteen, Jason sold a few of his deer dogs and decided to try rabbit hunting with beagles. It turned out that rabbit hunting was something he immediately fell in love with.

“I noticed that the beagles just listened better, and that the hunting was easier and more enjoyable,” says Jason.

Over the years, Jason continued to pursue his passion, and in 2012, he founded his own beagle kennel—Brush Bustin’ Kennels. He currently has ten adult dogs and two puppies, and he also breeds his dogs, keeping at least one puppy from each litter. “The most fulfilling part for me is when I see the light bulb switch on in those puppies. You can tell they now know what they’re doing,” Jason says.

Fueled by Joy podcast host Mike Greene has been friends with Jason for about eight years, ever since Jason bought a puppy from him. At a hunt where both were competing, Jason placed with two of his dogs and won two bags of our High Energy 24/20 formula. He’s been feeding Joy Dog Food ever since.
