The Origin of the Super Hunt
The idea for the Super Hunt was born in 2022, thanks to Fueled by Joy Podcast host Josh Michaelis. He envisioned a competition that would settle the long-standing debate over the best
hunting organization. “There’s always been an argument about what the best organization is. We thought about putting them against each other to see who was actually the world champion,” Josh explains. With the enthusiastic support of Joy Dog Food, planning for the first Super Hunt began, and the event quickly became a cornerstone of the hunting calendar.
Planning the Super Hunt
Selecting the perfect venue was a top priority. Josh chose Red Stag Ranch in Centerville, TX, a place he was familiar with and knew would provide the ideal setting. With help from Kevin and Karen Ellis, the logistics came together, including comfortable lodging for participants and staff to manage the lodge.
For the second Super Hunt, Joy brought in videographer Ben Sheets to enhance the event’s
production value. From action-packed hunts to behind-the-scenes moments, every detail was captured to give viewers an immersive experience.

The 2025 Super Hunt introduces an exciting twist: a four-dog cast. Among the competitors is the AKC World Champion, Duell Murphy, who will bring his expertise and determination to the event. With two previous hunts under their belt, Josh and the Joy team have streamlined the
filming and organizational process, promising an even better experience for viewers and participants.
